Spring 2012 Youth Swim Lessons
The Watauga County Swim Complex is now registering for Spring Swim Lessons.
Session 1: starts March 21- April 6 this is a W, F, M class that starts at 5:30 and ends at 6:15 levels 1-3
Session 2: starts March 26- April 5 this is a Monday- Thursday class that starts at 6:30 and ends at 7:15 levels 1-4+
Session 3: starts April 16- April 26 this is a Monday- Thursday class that starts at 6:30 and ends at 7:15 levels 1-4+
Session 4: starts April 18- May 4 this is a W, F, M class that starts at 5:30 and ends at 6:15 levels 1-3

Instructor, Holly Soukup will share a demonstration that will guide beginning and intermediate level students through the process of painting their artwork. Artwork is completed in one workshop session. Bring a friend and come join the fun!

Using improv technique you will improve control of your voice, discover techniques to channel “stage fright,” gain confidence, and learn to make your body work for you in a fun, interactive environment. Participants Needed for Study on Child Eating Behaviors! Earn $30!
RESEARCHERS IN THE ASU PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT ARE RECRUITING PARENT AND CHILD PARTICIPANTS FOR A STUDY EXAMINING CHILD EATING BEHAVIORS.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION INCLUDE:
•Parent should be primarily responsible for feeding.
•Child should be 3-12 years old with no difficulties consuming food normally.
•Data collection will last one hour & will consist of height & weight measurements, parental questionnaire forms, submission of grocery store receipts, & a child interview.
There is little to no potential for harm and this study will benefit research understanding how child eating behavior develops. Plus you get PAID $30!
FaithBridge United Methodist Church - Grand Opening

Meat Camp Fire Membership Info Session
If you live in or near the Meat Camp Fire District and have ever considered serving your community, make sure to mark Monday, December 12th on your calendar. Meat Camp Fire Department will host a membership information session for you to learn more about volunteer opportunities as a firefighter, medical responder, support auxiliary, or junior firefighter (14 - 17 years of age). There is no commitment to join - just a time to learn more. The event begins at 7 p.m. on December 12 at Green Valley Elementary School. Friends of the Watauga County Public Library Holiday Book Sale
The Friends of the Watauga County Public Library's Annual Holiday Book Sale will take place on Thursday, Nov.3rd 9am, to 7pm; Friday Nov. 4th 9am to 5pm and Sat. Nov 5th 9am to 1pm. Holiday Gift Baskets for children and adults will be featured along with specialty books. A small selection of $1 books will be available. Come early for best selection.

The Friends of the Library are asking for donations of GENTLY used books for their upcoming Holiday Sale. No text books please...Books can be brought to the Watauga County Public Library. All donations will be greatly appreciated......Remember your donation is tax deductable.

Appalachian State University is seeking volunteers for a research study investigating health and support resources for young women who have had an unplanned pregnancy.
You must be female, must have faced an unplanned pregnancy, and must be between 18 and 24 years old and be able to read, write, and understand English to participate. Volunteers will complete an online survey of questions about nutrition, exercise, and social support beliefs and experiences. The survey will take about 45 minutes to complete.
Volunteers will be given a $20 online gift card for their time.

The Watauga Library has discarded all their audio cassette tapes (Books on Tape) and the Friends of the Library are offering them for sale in the foyer of the Library for one dollar each. We've got lots and lots of audio tapes and will be replenishing the table during the week, so come by often to check.

Needlework Class at Senior Center
The Lois E. Harrill Senior Center is now accepting registration for a new session of needlework class. Classes will meet at the senior center each Thursday from 1-4pm beginning Thursday, August 4. The instructor is Marianne Evans and the charge for the 12-week session is $27.00. Instruction will be available in knitting, needlepoint, embroidery, cross-stitch and hardanger. Class size is limited. Any age may attend but priority is given to persons age sixty and older. The deadline for registration is 5:00pm Wednesday, August 3. Fit & Strong! Exercise Session at Louis E. Harrill Senior Center
If you are at least 60 years old and experience joint pain or want to develop and maintain a more active lifestyle, this program is for you. “Fit & Strong!” is an award-winning program proven to reduce arthritis symptoms and promote a physically active lifestyle. Sessions will be led by certified instructors and will include a variety of exercises as well as group discussion. Class will meet at the Harrill Senior Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:30am-12noon for 8 weeks, beginning August 15th. This program is FREE!
