The High Country High School Chorale is beginning its second year this month. This Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Pamela Hopton-Jones, is designed for both male and female singers in grades 8 - 12 who would enjoy having additional opportunities in singing and vocal performance.
Public, private, and home-schooled students are encouraged to participate. Students who have had limited choral experience are welcomed as well as those who have more experience. The choir’s repertoire features a wide variety of quality music
including folk, sacred, classical, and jazz literature.
Because of outstanding support during its first year, the High Country High School Chorale grew from an idea to an ensemble of 40 voices by spring semester. What a marvelous way to begin a new Chorale!
Dr. Hopton-Jones has conducted many choral ensembles at the elementary, middle school, high school, and college choirs, as well as church and festival choirs at the state and national levels. At each rehearsal, she places emphasis not only on good singing technique but also on developing excellent musicianship.
According to Dr. Hopton-Jones, “Singing encompasses the entire body, mind, and soul. It is very exciting to create something from within your being and work together with other singers to create beautiful music.” Laura Coston is the
Chorale’s accompanist.
Rehearsals for this ensemble will be held each Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 to 5:50 at the Boone United Methodist Church. The first rehearsal is on August 25 and will run from 4:00 - 5:15 followed by a parent meeting from 5:15 - 6:00.
Tuition for the High Country High School Chorale is $135/student per semester including music.
