Vote for Recreation and Community Centers

As many of you know, there will be an upcoming sales tax referendum on August 31st that would raise the local sales tax by one-quarter cent in order to fund new recreation opportunities generated from the County's Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

Early voting is open now through August 28 at the Watauga County Courthouse.

The commissioners' have passed a resolution stating that the money will be spent on:

-Construction of a new recreation center in Boone on the new high school site that would include a pool, gym and indoor exercise facilities.

-Construction of an Eastern Watauga Community Center with space for multipurpose meetings, a kitchen and other amenities.

-Upgrades to facilities and amenities at the county's existing infrastructure.

If this is approved, the tax would only cost 25 cents for every hundred dollars spent (THIS WILL NOT INCLUDE GROCERIES). This is a way to pay for this needed infrastructure without raising property taxes. I have attached a document from the commissioners explaining the sales tax and why now is the time for this initiative.
