Description

Join Park Volunteer, Certified Poetry Facilitator and member of the NC Haiku Society, Judy Schattner for a Haiku Walk (or Ginko) at the 221 Access of New River State Park.

This unique program will give you the opportunity to take a silent nature walk, use your senses in great detail, then return and write your very own Haiku. A short demonstration will be given before the walk, followed by time to write and even share your poem if you choose.

Meet at the 221 Access of New River State Park, Visitor Center.

This program will last approximately two hours. Please bring a writing pad and pen and wear sturdy shoes. The program is free and for ages 12 and up.

Our haiku walk consists of a short demonstration about creating a haiku: creating the mind set to gather your haiku moments on your walk and guidelines for writing a haiku. If you prefer not to walk, please come and sit by the river. We will meet back together to read our haikus as well as have opportunity to use art to express your haiku. No haikus will be critiqued.
