Description

Appalachian State, as part of its "Blurred Boundaries: Dialogues on the Experience of War" grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities will conduct its last book discussion by exploring Winnie Smith's memoir, American Daughter Gone to War. In this searing story of her experience as an Army nurse in a Saigon field hospital, Smith recounts not only the agonizing pain suffered by the soldiers she cared for, but explores her own trauma and its aftermath upon her return to a country torn by conflicting attitudes toward the war.
